The Melbury Cottage Railway only actually exists on one day per year. A friend of ours holds a garden party yearly for charity, and we attend because it's great fun, as well as being - well - so British. The railway is set up in their back garden, complete with station building, level crossing and appropriate signage.
Edmonson tickets, sequentially numbered and properly dated, are issued to passengers, which are clipped by helpers. Many people retain these as souvenirs. We also have an old-fashioned platform ticket machine which issues these for anyone who wants one. I must thank the owner of the Stortford railway for the design for this.
Something extra special this year (2007) was to have a 'proper' engine instead of one of our petrol engines. Many thanks to Phil for providing this.
